For a restaurant specialising in all things porky, the logo can’t be anything else except a big fat pig right?
I’ve heard so much about Publika from friends that I had to satisfy my curiosity. Since I went back to KL for christmas this year, I made it a point to patronise this “amazing” mall. We were short on time (what with family gatherings & weddings & such all compacted into 72 hours) but what I saw of this place is pretty positive. I loved the supermarket B.I.G (Ben’s Independent Grocer) and it’s accompanying dining establishments, plus the whole artsy-fartsy feel of the place.
We chose to eat at S.Wine since my parents were attracted to all that porky goodness.
Even the deco on the walls are plates featuring scribblings or pictures of… wait for it… Pork!
The menu is just one piece of paper crammed full on both sides with interesting ways to cook pork…
Watermelon and Lychee Salad
Greens in the middle, surrounded by artery-blocking chunks of crispy pork belly. I didn’t much bother with the salad – I only took one bite. I was gorging on all those fatty chunks of pork belly. It was fantastic! Who needs to go on a diet anyway? Live life to the fullest!
Grilled Lemongrass Pork Chops
As a student in Melbourne some years back (many years back, really), there was this tiny cramped kitchen famous for this exact dish. Eventhough the taste of this wasn’t comparable to the one in Melb, it really took me back to the good ol’ carefree days. The portion is huge though, and the soup was my favourite.
BBQ Chorizo Cheeseburger with Bacon
It looked a bit dry but the burger patty itself oozed BBQ sauce. DH found this mouth-watering, though my dad doused his in ketchup >.<
We also tried the Hainanese Pork Chop. No pictures though… I was took busy eating by the time that arrived. It wasn’t an authentic Hainanese Pork Chop like those found in Yut Kee… but it was alright. Even I cook a better Hainanese Pork Chop *ahem* according to DH (check out my recipe here).
Would I come again? Maybe. The food was acceptable and the atmosphere was exceptional. However, I would much prefer to spend more time exploring the supermarket than to overdose on pork here. I must be jaded, cause we can get pork everywhere in Singapore.
